Overview


The library offers a variety of programs for all ages all year! 

Special Programming:
 

  NEW CHILDREN'S PROGRAM: LOVE ON A LEASH provides certified therapy pet visitations to our library as Reading Education Assistance Dogs. Your child can schedule an appointment  to read to one of our therapy dogs by contacting the Children's Services Desk at 903-457-2992.
  
  
 
Ongoing Children and Teen Programming:

1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN - the more your child is exposed to words the more prepared s/he will be for kindergarten. Register your child at the Children's Reference Desk and pick up a log sheet for this ongoing program. For each book you, or someone else, reads to the child mark the log sheet. Rewards along the way encourage your child to read even more. 

ABCs for 123s (ages birth to 3 yrs) - Wednesdays at 10:00 am during the school year. The focus is on Pre-K readiness using songs, finger plays, rhymes, and other activities involving the child and caregiver. Caregiver must remain with the child throughout the program.

GOOD MORNING PRE-K (ages 4-5) - Tuesdays at 11:00 am during the school year. The focus is on school readiness using a songs, stories, and crafts to encourage language development, reading skills, math skills, gross and fine motor skills, social/emotional development, and work habits. Caregiver must remain with the child throughout the program.

STORYTIME
- Wednesdays at 11:00 am - stories, music and crafts for children up through age 9. Caregiver must remain with the child throughout the program.

FAMILY NIGHT - 3rd Thursday night of each month at 6:00 pm for board games, crafts, movie, or some other activity for everyone to enjoy.

SUPER SATURDAY FAMILY MOVIE - Join us the 1st Saturday of each month at 2:00 pm for popcorn and a family movie. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a responsible person age 13 or older throughout the movie.

FAMILY BUILD IT! - Join us every Saturday in the children's area from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm and build something with our Legos and other building blocks. S.T.E.M. time for your whole family.  
  
   Ongoing Adult Programming:

BOOKS SANDWICHED IN - This book club meets the 1st Wednesday of each month at 12:00 pm. Bring a sack lunch (optional) as we talk about books we have read over the past month. This is a great way to learn about new books and make friends with fellow bibliophiles.

ECLECTIC READERS - Held on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 pm. We all read and discuss the same book.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY - Meeting every other month, the purpose of this group is to support the library with fundraising activities and advocacy. Meeting dates are the 2nd Thursday of January, March, May, September, and November at 6:30 pm.

HUNT COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY - Come gather with others interested in family history on the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:30 pm. Each month features a how-to workshop or historical program. Every August the groups has a Lock-In at the Library where researchers have the library's resources all to themselves for several hours.

KNIT WITS - Do you like to knit or crochet? Would you like to learn? Come join this group Tuesday nights at 6:00 pm or drop in Fridays between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. All skill levels are welcome. Children may attend if accompanied by a adult caregiver throughout the program.

2nd  Friday MOVIE MATINEE - Enjoy a classic movie along with free popcorn and beverage at 3:00 pm on the 2nd Friday of each month. Children may attend if accompanied by an adult caregiver throughout the program.

SHUTTERBUGS - This group of amateur photographers meets at 6:30 pm the 3rd Monday of each month. Learn to use your new camera or discover new ways to use an old one. Call ahead for the location of the meeting.
