Responsibilities of the Personnel and Training Unit include:
- Maintaining all departmental training records and personnel files
- Ensuring all state-mandated training objectives are met - The Department is currently required to provide 40 hours of intermediate level training for each commissioned officer every two years
- Providing training opportunities to all civilian and police employees
- Processing and integrating new employees into the Department
Requirements
Requirements to become a Greenville Police Officer are:
- Pass a civil service examination
- Pass a physical agility exam, which includes:
- Running a 100 yd. dash in 15 seconds or less
- Changing a tire in 15 minutes or less
- Trigger squeeze
- Standing broad jump of 4'
- Sit-ups
- Running in place
- Jumping jacks
- Graduate from a Basic Police Academy - Approximately 856 hours of classroom and practical training
- Pass a stringent State licensing examination
- Complete 18 weeks of field training with a GPD Field Training Officer
Ongoing Training
In addition to the above requirements, all officers must:
- Complete a mandatory 40 hours of training every two years in order to maintain their State license
- Participate in firearm qualifications every six months
- Attend other training as required by the Department and the State of Texas
