Greenville is situated right in the middle of several great places for people who love the great outdoors!  For instance, within a 30-minute drive, we have access to five major lakes – Lake Fork, Cooper Lake, Lake Lavon, Lake Ray Hubbard, and the closest – Lake Tawakoni.  We also have a wonderful grasslands prairie environment - The Paul Mathews Preserve.  And for those that really like to be one with nature, stay in a luxury tree house at Savannah’s Meadow.  Or, spend some time at an Irish castle among their pet llama’s.  Read on for more information.

Lake Tawakoni - For the lake lover, Greenville's closest lake is situated just 20 minutes south east of Greenville - beautiful Lake Tawakoni.  This almost 38,000-acre lake is filled with some of the best bass fishing in the state!  There are numerous rental units and campsites available as well as public beaches and boat slips.  No mater what you are looking for in a lake get-away, Lake Tawakoni has you covered.  For more information, contact the Lake Tawakoni Regional Chamber of Commerce 

A great place to set up camp is at Lake Tawakoni State Park.  Here, you can boat, fish, swim, hike, mountain bike, go birding or even geocaching.  This park alone features over 376 acres of forest, 5 miles of beaches, and almost 80 campsites that can accommodate up to 675 people.  Lake Tawakoni State Park also features nearly 5 miles of trails that you can hike or bike.  We recommend the 45-minute Spring Point Trail for some great bird watching!  And, if you realize you left something at home, the Lake Tawakoni Trading Post sells souvenirs, ice, firewood, cold drinks, snacks, fishing bait and tackle.  For more information, visit Lake Tawakoni State Park. 

Another great place at Lake Tawakoni is Wind Point Park.  Just outside of nearby Lone Oak, this 180-acre RV Park and campground offers a variety of short and long-term lodging options, including cabins, enclosed shelters, tent camping and full RV hookups.  This is also a great place for the day visitor!  Here guests can enjoy swimming, boating, fishing and relaxing.  Its many community features and event spaces make this a great place for group retreats and family reunions.  And pets are welcome!  For more information, visit Wind Point Park.

Bike Riders on The Northeast Texas Trail

Northeast Texas Trail is a 132-mile trail suitable for hiking, and in many parts biking and horseback riding.  The trail runs from nearby Farmersville to just west of Texarkana.  Portions of the trail are paved, some are gravel, and some are cleared dirt.  This is part of the national "Rails to Trails" program that brings new life to the old railway rights of way.  Formerly owned by Union Pacific and Chaparral railroads, the Northeast Texas Trail Coalition — a partnership among local and statewide trail advocates and government agencies — now manages the property.  The trail connects 19 cities spread across seven counties. There are several creeks and more than 100 rail bridges. Greenville is a perfect base for exploring this trail as there are three nearby entry points - Farmersville, Celeste, and Wolfe City.  The best parking can be found in both Farmersville and Celeste.  For maps and more information, visit Northeast Texas Trail.

The Clymer Meadow Preserve contains some of the largest and most diverse remnants of the Blackland Prarie - The Texas version of the tall grass prairie that once stretched from near the Texas Coast to southern Manitoba.  The preserve is part oa larger conservation area that includes land owned by the Nature Conservancy of Texas and other private owners.  For more information, visit Clymer Meadow Preserve.

Savanahs Meadow Treehouse
