Crime Prevention / Community Relations

Crime Prevention

One definition of crime prevention is the anticipation, recognition, and elimination of a crime risk. Alliances continue between the Police Department and the community in our fight against crime in Greenville.

Neighborhood Watch Programs
Neighborhood Watch Programs across the nation grew into Town Watches, Community Watches, Nation Watches, and other similarly-named programs to encourage vigilance and awareness by all of us in the fight against criminals.

Functions of this Unit include, but are not limited to:
  • Coordination of National Night Out, usually sponsored by the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and the Greenville Police Department
  • McGruff, who is in great demand for a variety of crime prevention assignments during the year
  • Apartment Managers / Police Partnership Coalition Program
    • This Program forms a better working relationship between apartment managers and the PD and makes all apartment complexes in Greenville a more enjoyable and safer place to live
    • Meetings are hosted quarterly
