Hiring Process

Screening / Interviewing

For posted job vacancies, the hiring / interviewing department will review all referred applications and select the applicants to be interviewed.

The interviewing department will call candidates to schedule interviews and select the applicant to be hired. Because of the volume of applications and time required to review each application, you will not be called or contacted unless you are selected for an interview.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing

All applicants selected for hire are subject to pre-employment drug testing.

Background Check

Criminal history checks and motor vehicle records checks are performed as part of the hiring process.

Orientation

Your Human Resources orientation will take place as close to your start date as possible. Orientation takes approximately one hour. You will be contacted by the HR Generalist for the date and time.

You will need to bring social security numbers and birth dates for dependents to be covered under medical/dental and for any beneficiaries to be listed on your TMRS retirement.

Probationary Period

New hires are subject to a 6-month probationary period that begins on their first day of work. Civil Service Fire and Police new hires are subject to a 12 to 18 month probationary period. A new hire is an at-will employee and may be dismissed at any time during the probationary period with or without cause.
