[ARCHIVED] Announcement from the Mayor

Mayor Message

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE MAYOR

March 13, 2020

This announcement identifies potential restrictions on City facilities and functions to help ensure the health and safety of all our citizens including all City Employees and First Responders. We are closely monitoring guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and public health agencies on the appropriate preparations and responses to potential impacts from the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

As we are all aware the COVID-19 has been declared a Pandemic and the President of the United States has declared a National Emergency. That in itself will provide for increase testing and provide for approval of changes to hospital’s operations. In addition, Governor Abbott declared a State of Emergency for the state of Texas.

I will be talking with the City Council tomorrow in an open meeting to identify specific steps the City will take concerning upcoming meetings, the use of certain City facilities, as well as parks and recreational areas. While some of these restrictions will result in changes in your plans and may be an inconvenience, I feel it is better to be safe than sorry.

Meanwhile, care for yourself, your family and those around you, and continue to adhere to the preventative measures as recommended by public health officials, such as limiting interaction, practicing social distancing, and washing of your hands often for at least 20 seconds. Visit the CDC website for more information about recommendations for personal safety practices.

We will continue to closely monitor this situation and provide additional updates as appropriate.

Respectfully,

David L. Dreiling
