PRESS RELEASE: MAJORS FIELD FLY-IN

FREE COMMUNITY EVENT SET FOR SATURDAY, MAY 1, 2021

GREENVILLE: The Fly-In will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 1, at the City of Greenville Municipal Airport, Majors Field, located at 101 Majors Road. This event is free and open to the public. There will be various aircraft, antique aircraft, and Lady Liberty, a true warbird, and a Russian Mig-17 on display. There will also be children's activities including a bounce house, and aircraft rides for sale.

One of the highlights among the aircraft on display will be "Ready 4 Duty"; a Douglas DC-3 that served during World War II, from the Caribbean to the North Atlantic and carried depth charges for the U.S. Navy. It was one of 20 American aircraft that surprised a German U-Boat and sank it off the coast of Brazil, according to the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), which owns and operates a fleet of historic warplanes. Additional historic aircraft from the CAF and private owners are expected to be at the event.

Local residents are encouraged to attend the Fly-In. Out-of-town pilots are also encouraged to fly into the Greenville airport for the event and stay for the Hunt County Fair, which takes place at the Hunt County Fairgrounds.

Public Parking will be available, located off of CR 2101 and 7th Street. Signage will be posted.
