National Night Out 2021 logo

The City of Greenville and the Greenville Police Department are looking for individuals interested in hosting neighborhood gatherings for National Night Out – Texas.

Wonder what National Night is?

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories, and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August (Texas and select areas celebrate on the first Tuesday in October). Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, cookouts, and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits, and much, much more. In Texas, National Night Out also kicks off the National Crime Prevention Month

Greenville, Texas has been holding National Night Out activities for years in our neighborhoods. We have seen everything from pot luck dinners and cookouts, to bounce houses and carnival games, and there has even been a live band at one neighborhood party. Last year this event was canceled due to COVID so we want to have a large turnout in your neighborhood this year. Police Officers, Firefighters, Paramedics, and City Officials spend the evening going around to as many of the locations as possible and are there to answer questions, have fun with the kids, and especially eat some food and desserts.

Here is what we need from you. If you are interested in hosting a block party in your neighborhood we would like for you to attend a meeting at the Greenville Police Department, 3000 Lee St., on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the community room. Neighborhood organizers will be able to learn more about the program and sign up to have officers, firefighters, paramedics, and city officials come by. There will also be seasoned organizers at the meeting that will help new organizers with ideas and planning. Click here for the registration form.

The deadline to fill out and return the form to the below email address is September 10, 2021.
