[ARCHIVED] PRESS RELEASE: GREENVILLE FIRE-RESCUE ONCE AGAIN OFFERING CPR/BLS CLASSES TO RESIDENTS AND LOCAL BUS

PRESS RELEASE: GREENVILLE FIRE-RESCUE ONCE AGAIN OFFERING CPR/BLS CLASSES TO RESIDENTS AND LOCAL BUSINESSES

GREENVILLE: Greenville Fire-Rescue offers monthly basic life-saving classes to the public as well as custom classes to local businesses. The public Hearstsaver course covers First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training. Businesses can ask for the aforementioned class, a CPR/AED only class, or the BLS (Basic Life Saving) Class, which is typically required in medical professions such as dental offices or nursing home/rehab facilities. BLS classes can be held onsite or at our location.

All classes are taught to American Heart Association (AHA) standards with 100% classroom training. This means students are with an AHA instructor for their entire learning experience. All classes conform to the 2020 AHA guidelines. No previous medical training is necessary to take any of the classes.

The importance of beginning CPR as soon as a cardiac event occurs can be the difference between life and death, in many cases. According to the American Heart Association, when a person has a cardiac arrest, survival depends on immediately getting CPR from someone nearby which is improved even more with the use of an AED. Almost 90 percent of people, who suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests, don’t survive. CPR, especially if performed in the first few minutes of cardiac arrest, can double or triple a person’s chance of survival.

This Heartsaver course is designed to meet OSHA requirements and covers first aid basics and CPR and AED skills for adults, children, and infants. (Class length is approximately 6 hours). The BLS course teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on High-Quality CPR and team dynamics. (Class is approximately 4 hours).

Upcoming Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED classes will be held from 9 am-3 pm at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center 5501 Joe Ramsey Blvd S on August 12, Sept 14, Oct 14, November 16, and December 13.

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials; do not represent income to the AHA.

The class cost is $50 (check or cash), includes a course completion card and textbook. Space is limited. Enroll early to avoid class cancellation due to low enrollment. Please call 903-457-2940 to register or for more information.
