[ARCHIVED] PRESS RELEASE: LIBRARY RECEIVES TEXAS BOOK FESTIVAL GRANT

PRESS RELEASE: LIBRARY RECEIVES TEXAS BOOK FESTIVAL GRANT

Greenville: The W. Walworth Harrison Public Library will be the recipient of a $2,500 grant from The Texas Book Festival. These grants support collection enhancement for Texas public libraries. This funding enables libraries to share the diversity and breadth of literature with their entire communities. The library is one of 53 libraries statewide to receive an award this year. Funds will be used to provide the library with a Wonderbook collection – print books with ready-to-play audiobooks inside. These books provide a more inclusive, multisensory experience for a beginning reader.

Since the Texas Book Festival’s (TBF) founding in 1995, it has been a part of the TBF’s mission to promote Texas libraries and literacy. Each year, funds raised at the annual Texas Book Festival support grants that are distributed the following year. Since 1996, the organization has funded 1,044 grants totaling more than $2.7 million to 600+ libraries across Texas.

Research shows that hearing and seeing words at the same time can improve reading success rates and that being read to three times per week raises test scores. Wonderbooks give kids an edge with vocabulary development, phonics, and comprehension, plus encourages deeper engagement with every book – all in a fun and engaging way.
