Mission Statement

The Northeast Texas Genealogy Center is a research facility dedicated to encouraging the exploration and appreciation of the history of Northeast Texas.

The Center fulfills this mission by collecting, preserving, and making available important materials representative of Northeast Texas’ diverse peoples and cultures, both past and present.

The Northeast Texas Genealogy Center has pledged itself to preserve the unique history of the region to ensure that present and future generations can share in and understand their rich heritage.


The Center includes:


  • A collection of over 127,000 items (physical & digital)
  • Information on over 212 Texas counties
  • 300 family histories and manuscripts
  • Rare out-of-print Texas history books
  • Historic photographs of Greenville and Hunt County
  • Texas Revolution records
  • Greenville news publications dating from 1894 to current
  • Confederate Military History
  • Official Records of the War of the Rebellion

Ancestry Library Edition
Ancestry Library Edition is a comprehensive online source of information for conducting genealogical research.
It has over 4,000 databases including:

U.S. Federal Census images and indexes from 1790 to 1930
The Map Center contains over 1,000 historical maps
American Genealogical Biographical Index (200+ volumes)
Daughters of the American Revolution Lineage (150+ volumes)

FamilySearch is the largest genealogy organization in the world. FamilySearch has been actively gathering, preserving, and sharing genealogical records for over 100 years.
It has over 3.5 billion names and millions of digitized historical records spanning the globe.

Access from Anywhere: These resources as just a click away! If accessing from the library, just click on the link you need.
If accessing from home or somewhere else, for America's News click the button and enter your library card number (account must be in good standing for access). For everything else, click the needed link, select the W Walworth Harrison Public Library, and enter the library password (Don't have this? Just call the library).

Combines digital, searchable images of U.S. federal census records with the digitized version of the popular ProQuest Genealogy & Local History collection and other valuable content.


NewsBank
An online resource with current content and archives from more the 3,650 U.S. news sources - including the Greenville Herald-Banner!  It is useful for exploring a range of popular topics including business, health, politics, careers, obituaries, birth announcements, and much more.


Sanborn Maps
Provides digital access to 2118 large-scale maps of 436 Texas towns and cities, including cities like Dallas, Houston, Austin, El Paso, Forth Worth, and San Antonio.


Free Historical Newspapers Links
theancestorhunt.comThere are over 5,700 newspapers that have been published in the Lone Star State, and there is a sizable state-wide free online collection for searching historical newspapers.  So go for it – find your Texas ancestors and all the interesting articles that capture the stories of their lives.
